Lauren Smith

From as far back as I can remember, I have been drawn to problem solving and math, which led me to pursue physics during my undergraduate degree. I spent the summers of my undergrad as a research student working in microbiology at a research hospital and working in this environment, attending clinics and rounds, got me interested in the world of medicine and healthcare. Combining my interests of medicine and the physical sciences brought me to the field of medical biophysics, which I chose to pursue a PhD in at Western. This naturally progressed to my interest of a career in medical physics, satisfying both my need for hands-on problem solving and being directly involved in the healthcare world.
